German universities and research centers contribute to the development of electronics science and technology and maintain their own electronics teams for scientific instrumentation. This presentation highlights selected aspects and does not claim to provide a comprehensive overview.
An introduction to SEI, the conference of the scientific instrumentation study group, including some highlights, along with our proposal to SEI members to contribute to KiCad and its libraries, and some spotlights of electronics development at universities and research centers in Germany.

Peter is an industrial skilled electric and electronic worker and studied computer science, economy and business administration.
During his traineeship, he developed electronics and firmware in assembler of a highly flexibly configurable quadruple counter for parking garages with a MC 8051 to replace unreliable, unflexible electromechanical counters.
Later he developed software, CPLD- and FPGA-based embedded devices and provided to instrumentation of neutron scattering beamlines and other scientific instruments at Research center Jülich https://www.fz-juelich.de/en.
Since his childhood, Peter has been engaged in the volunteer fire brigade and now in its emergency power brigade. He is board member of http://1wf.de/, http://www.commoning.space/ and member of https://tdrm.fiff.de/index.php/en/ with its ongoing development of a citizen environmental sensor station and network at https://www.fiff.de/
