With all the fun of creating your circuits, it can be easy to forget to document them as well. This talk covers some general philosophy, and five approaches to documenting your schematics and PCBs directly in KiCad.
We will start with some general philosophy regarding the how, what and why to document. Then the main topics will be five general approaches, starting with simple text boxes and ending with fancy graphs. For each one we will show some examples and demonstrations from real projects in KiCad, to help illustrate how one can implement these ideas in practice.
I am an engineer with a Master's Degree in Engineering Physics & Complex Adaptive Systems. I started using KiCad over 15 years ago for small hobby projects, and have since continued to use it for increasingly complex home projects, professionally at work, and to create a few official event badges.
Have worked with a lot of different things, such as programming, math, statistics, medical studies, circuit design, PCB design, RF designs, ultra-low-power designs, injection molding, DFM, frontend, backend, firmware, database, networking, IoT, security, cryptography, FPGAs, testing/certification, and more.
