Learn how to create a symbol and a footprint using the current state of the art in KiCad, including submitting it to the library.
A live demonstration with a KiCad librarian of:
- Set-up needed to create new library parts (cloning the repositories, and configuring)
- Drawing a symbol for an RJ45 magjack and filling in the metadata
- Drawing a footprint for the same magjack from scratch
- Validating both the symbol and footprint according to Kicad Library Conventions
- Submitting the symbol and footprint to the official KiCad libraries, including creating the supporting materials that mean your MR gets reviewed faster
The process of creating the symbol and footprint will show some of the new features of what will become KiCad v9 in early 2025, including outsets, snapping tools and offset tools.
